The new Reality blue bus arrived in Barwell last week. Designed to engage with the young people of Barwell , Earl Shilton, Hinckley and other parts of Leicestershire it was parked on the George Ward car park for a couple of hours.
A large group of local youngsters came to suss-out this new project and were well impressed.
On Tuesday last the blue Reality bus arrived in the Hinckley area spending the morning and early afternoon in Hinckley town Centre and then moving on to Barwell George Ward Centre for the early evening and finally moving to the Earl Shilton Coop car park. The bus attracted large crowds of youngsters who thoroughly enjoyed the activities and facilities provided.
So who are reality and what is the bus about?
Christian Charity, Reality Youth Project, works with Churches schools and communities to make a positive difference in the lives of young people across Leicestershire, helping them reach their full potential.
The Reality Bus Project is an exciting new venture and will have a massive impact on Reality’s work, it will both grow the work that Reality are already involved in but also will be used in new areas and new projects. One of the biggest issues facing young people today is loneliness and the bus will seek to address that in a positive way. “The bus will offer a safe place for young people to come and spend time with their friends and the youth workers on the bus, instead of potentially being at risk of causing antisocial behaviour. As well as having fun, we want the bus to be a place where we can offer support and advice on such issues as self-esteem, anger management, separation and loss, alcohol and drugs, self-harm, bullying, staying safe online, eating disorder, employment, sexual health”.
The bus was donated by the Souter Foundation and refitted with grants from the Leicestershire County Council, Santander, Blaby District Council, Churches, individuals, and a number of fundraising events. Much of the labour was given for free by tradesmen from the local community. After much blood, sweat and tears the Reality Bus is on the Road and had it’s first trips this week as part of ‘n’counter summer 2015. The bus visited, Countesthorpe, Hinckley, Barwell, Earl Shilton, Enderby and Netherhall and it was a massive hit.
Look out for the Reaity Bus coming to a community near you sometime in the Autumn! For more information
