Official Opening 30th October 2017
What a wonderful and inspiring service to officially open the new building. Our own Minister Revd Dr Tim Woolley shared a potted history of the various Chapels and Churches that had stood in Burbage over the years, including reminding us that John Wesley on a number of occasions preached in Hinckley. And the Chair of Northampton District, Revd Helen Cameron gave the address and inspired us all with her words.
The Old Brick
I was born in the 18 hundreds and along with my mates was transported to a little village called Burbage, well at least that is what it is called now. We were to be given pride of place in the building of a brand new Church for the Methodist movement. It is a credit to those skilled workmen that we stood proud and erect for so many years, until due to rising damp and the need for renewal some 150 years later meant our time together was at an end.
We have seen many a wedding, many many sermons preached, some good some not so, and of course the less than happy times when true and faithful followers of Christ have gone to meet their maker.
We have seen life in all its twists and turns.
In 2016 many of us whilst staying together have now moved to be re-used after being carefully handled by a skilled company which took the Church down and was employed because of there re-cycling policy.
Some of us however missed that opportunity and found ourselves buried in the rubble and hidden from sight.
Until that is we were looked for, and reclaimed from that pile, and carefully transported from that place in an executive car of all things to a private residence. Here we were scrubbed and cleaned up and made ready for a new existence. Some of us bearing the scars of years, but grateful for a new beginning, although we will miss all the mates we were separated from.
What happens next we understand is unknown, but what we hope will happen is that we will find new horizons to look out on, perhaps given pride of place by the current Church going community of Methodists.
I guess time will tell.
