At Barwell Methodist Church, we seek to be followers of Jesus and agents of God’s blessing to the wider community for every step of life’s journey.
Our church is made up of around 80 confirmed members, who are committed to working, giving and praying, so that we can continue to be an authentic expression of God’s worldwide church, right here in Barwell. We also have a wider ‘church family’ – our circle of friends and visitors who help to make the chapel a warm and exciting place.
Friendship and Fellowship
Church is so much more than Sunday worship. We are constantly arranging opportunities for friendship and fellowship, ways to learn and explore our discipleship, and different expressions of worship, including those in our local residential home and pub. We have good links with local churches of different denominations, and are also a part of the Hinckley Methodist Circuit.
Community
We are reaching out to try to meet some of the needs in our local community, including running our ever-popular weekly soup lunches, and being a Foodbank distribution centre, giving emergency food to people in crisis.
Youth work
Despite being a largely-older congregation, our passion for young people has never diminished.
Pastoral Care
Of course, there’s the stream of Christenings, funerals and occasionally weddings that are conducted in God’s name within our walls. All of this is enfolded in the pastoral care of the church, by our minister, pastoral assistant and visitors.
Through worship, service, evangelism, learning and caring, our calling and our passion is to communicate God’s love.
At what cost?
But none of this comes without its costs. For a relatively small and aging church, we are making a big difference in our community thanks to the dedication of a small number.
Our church is a hub of activity and used almost every day by the playgroup, organisations or church groups. This, by-and-large, pays for the upkeep of our building, but not for the ministry and employment costs that go with it. A small regular donation would mean an awful lot. There are also opportunities to volunteer in our activities, and of course we need prayer that our work will be successful.
Can you help?
Can we count on you? Would you like to support our work further?
